Excited tots, trendy teens and fashion-forward adults are ready to wow city audiences during the Lincoln Fashion Week extravaganza.

Sixty-five wannabee models, chosen from about 100 applicants, can’t wait to take to the catwalk and showcase the hottest new looks during the most stylish week in the city’s calendar.

As the countdown begins to five amazing fashion shows – taking place between May 16 and 20 – there is frenzied behind the scenes activity to ensure all our models will look stunning.

And with St Mark’s and Waterside Shopping as key sponsors working alongside organiser Lincoln BIG,  this event promises to be unforgettable.

Lincoln BIG Events & Promotions Manager Michael Armstrong said: “We were thrilled with the response to our call for models and their sheer enthusiasm. Everyone is buzzing about fashion week.

“People have lots of different reasons for wanting to be part of it. Some are simply passionate about fashion, others aspire to modelling careers. Then there are those who are keen to inspire others to make the most of themselves.

“All our models have been matched with the stores and venues hosting the four free fashion shows, which lead up to our Grand Finale Show on Friday, May 20.

“The pace is hotting up, as our professional team of Designer and Creative Director Murray Kirkham, Stylist Charlotte Lamb and Nail Stylist Nikki Drury swing into action to give our models fantastic makeovers and set the scene for a really memorable event,” said Mr Armstrong.

Fashion Week kicks off with its first pop-up show on May 16 at Debenhams (St Mark’s), from 11am to 4pm. On May 17, it is the turn of House of Fraser in High Street, which will be showcasing the latest looks between 10.30am and 5pm.

People who are in the uphill area of the city on Wednesday, May 18, are encouraged to visit the County Assembly Room and catch the pop-up show there between 12 noon and 4pm. On Thursday, May 19, the Waterside Shopping Centre hosts the last free show, between 10.30am and 3.30pm.

“On Friday, May 20, Fashion Week reaches fever pitch with a glittering, red carpet celebration in St Swithin’sChurch. Doors open at 7pm, ready for for our catwalk extravaganza, which begins at 7.30pm,” said Mr Armstrong.

“Tickets for this spectacular cost £10. The evening,  which will be compered by popular BBC Radio Lincolnshire presenter Scott Dalton, will also feature a sparkling performance by Streetbeat and everyone will go home with a goody bag containing some great offers and discount vouchers.”

Important players Debenhams and NEXT said Lincoln’s bumper fashion spectacle presents a great opportunity. Debenhams Manager Chris Claxton said: “We are keen to make sure that Lincoln Fashion Week is a huge success for the city and all local and High Street retailers. We hope it will bring the city together and attract new visitors.

“Hopefully, on the back of this, there will be a really strong feelgood factor about what this city has to offer. Whilst we are a tourist city, we are also a destination. There are a lot of people in the surrounding area, many of whom probably don’t know how much we offer.”

A Next spokeswoman said: “We are really excited to be involved and we can’t wait for everyone to see our new collections.”

Toni Moss (55) and her daughter Harriet Kissane (30) will be among the stars appearing in our fashion finale, and they can’t wait! Toni, is especially thrilled: unbeknown to her, Harriet secretly applied for her to model during Fashion Week!

“I saw the advertisement for models and thought, I work full-time as a teacher at Christ’s Hospital School in Wragby Road, Lincoln, I have three children and I am back to being a size eight. It can be done. I will apply to model in the show,” said Mrs Kissane.

“Then I thought, mum’s been fighting cancer and having chemotherapy, but no-one would ever know.  She looks fantastic, I will send in an application for her as well.

“Her last treatment is due just a few days before the show. It would be nice if she was pampered and we could do this together. We could both inspire other people in different ways.”

Now both mum and daughter are ticking off the dates on their calendar as they prepare for their catwalk debut.

Toni said: “I am very excited. I never expected to be a model.  It is a lovely, unexpected surprise.”
