Lincoln BIG’s received a fantastic response to its call-out for people of all ages who want to be our models for Lincoln Fashion Week – with nearly 200 people stepping forward! Now, the team behind the glittering extravaganza wants to hear from people who would like to share in the excitement by volunteering their support during this event, which runs from May 4 to 11.

So much is happening behind the scenes, with more sponsors stepping forward and Lincoln BIG and its partners working hard to finalise a fantastic programme of around 20 individual events for Lincoln Fashion Week – ensuring there is plenty for everyone from tots to teenagers and grandparents to enjoy.

Head of Fashion Week Jessica Wickham said: “We are delighted that so many people are keen to transform into fashion models on the catwalk during LFW, which will culminate in a not-to-be-missed grand finale at Alive Church in Newland, Lincoln.

“Now we are concentrating on recruiting an army of volunteers, to help our front of house and backstage teams to help mastermind the individual events, especially our exciting finale.

“We need people who are able to work a minimum of eight hours throughout our eight-day event and, if they a good knowledge of Lincoln that will be a real bonus,” said Jessica.

“We know it will provide them with valuable experience, especially if they are passionate about arts administration, events management or stage production.”

Volunteers will be paid local parking and travelling expenses, a lunch allowance and receive lots of goodies from our retailers and partners.

Interested individuals should contact Maureen Keddy or Jessica Wickham requesting an application form. Applications close on March 23.

Lincoln BIG also revealed that The Rising Cafe at Alive Church will undergo a “change of identity” during the LFW Catwalk Finale – when one of the city’s newer tea shop owners moves in!

Des Davis, who opened Margaret’s Tea Rooms in Garmston Street almost a year ago, has joined our LFW’s sponsors and he will be taking over The Rising Café to serve his deicious canapes to our VIP guests and others using our VIP area.

Des’ support comes on top of that being given by our main LFW sponsors – The Waterside Shopping Centre, St Marks Shopping Centre and the motor group Pentagon, which have all financially-backed LFW.

“Spotlight” sponsors, who will be showcasing a comprehensive collection of their hottest looks in our catwalk finale, include Primark, Marks & Spencer, House of Fraser and Debenhams.

And there’s another LFW factor that’s causing a special buzz. This year Lincoln BIG has chosen the Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance to benefit by receiving 50 per cent of our ticket sales.

The service’s ambucopter can reach any point within the two counties in less than 20 minutes and take a patient to the nearest hospital in as little as eight minutes.

It responds to some of the most serious 999 calls 365-days a year and currenty needs to find £2.5m to a year to keep flying.  That figure will increase to nearly £4m when it moves to 24-hour flying, hopefully by the end of this year.
